May Day, also known as Labor Day, is observed on May 1 in China. The five-day holiday starting on May 1 is a public holiday that celebrates workers’ contributions to the country.
Sunday, April 25 and Saturday, May 8 are designated as working days to partially offset the five days off for the May Day holiday.
Labor Day has been an official public holiday in China since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. This holiday originally served as a means of honoring workers across China. Today, Labor Day in China is a sort of a cheerful holiday meant for enjoying some time off with friends and family.
