On October 10th, the Yangtze River Delta Synthetic Biology Industry Innovation Park opened in Changzhou National High-Tech District (CND), creating a source of innovation for the synthetic biology industry and building a “synthetic biology port” in the Yangtze River Delta.
The Yangtze River Delta Synthetic Biology Industry Innovation Park, located in the Changzhou Life and Health Industrial Park, is jointly built by the Changzhou Municipal Government, Changzhou CND Administration Committee and Nanjing Normal University (NNU). It aims to become a comprehensive, integrated, open and shared sci-tech innovation platform, gathering high-level innovative and entrepreneurial talents, and promoting the development of the synthetic biology industry.
At the ceremony, twenty key projects were signed, with a total investment of 950 million yuan. Meanwhile, the Park established a two-billion-yuan special fund for the synthetic biology industry and a 200-million-yuan park development fund. It has established partnership with Changzhou Medical Device Association, Nanjing University Biomedicine Industry Alumni Association, Suzhou Biomedicine Industry Alliance and other units.
The Synthetic Biology Industry Development Seminar was held on the same day.
In recent years, Changzhou’s bio-pharmaceutical industry has a strong momentum for growth. The city boasts a number of high-tech companies such as Changmao Biochemical, Chuangjian Medical, and Changzhou Institute of Pharmaceutical Research, as well as innovative platforms such as NNU Changzhou Institute of Synthetic Biology Industry and the Engineering Biology Institute of BGI.
As of the end of 2022, there were 202 enterprises above designated size in the bio-pharmaceutical industry in the city, with an output value of 55.82 billion yuan. With a focus on the synthetic biology industry, the Changzhou National High-tech District seizes opportunities for robust growth. A total of 28 companies, including Hequan Pharmaceuticals of WuXi AppTec, Yangtze River Zilong Pharmaceuticals, United Imaging Medical Technology, Qianhong Biochemicals, and Ypsomed, have established their presence in the Zone, with a total investment exceeding 30 billion yuan.
